As part of a criminal investigation into the actor Mikhail Efremov, who, while intoxicated, caused a fatal accident, another criminal proceeding was opened - upon the sale of drugs. This was reported in the press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Moscow.

“During the investigation of the accident case, the fact of the sale by unidentified persons to a foreign car driver was established. The Main Investigation Department has opened a criminal case on the grounds of a crime under Art. 228.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Illegal production, sale or transfer of narcotic drugs”), ”the statement said.

It also became known that the criminal case against the honored artist of Russia Mikhail Efremov was transferred to the Main Investigation Department of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the city of Moscow.

Earlier, the prosecutor of the capital Denis Popov demanded this. He also instructed to ensure supervision of the investigation and the observance of procedural rights. However, the Moscow prosecutor's office reported that Efremov was driving a car in a state of alcohol and drug intoxication.

“The bodies of the preliminary investigation have charged Mikhail Efremov under paragraph“ a ”, part 4, art. 264 of the Criminal Code, namely that, while driving a car in a state of alcohol and drug intoxication, he committed an accident, as a result of which a person died. A penalty of imprisonment for a term of 5 to 12 years is envisaged for the commission of this crime, ”the Moscow prosecutor’s office explained.

In addition, the head of the press service of the capital's GU Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia Vladimir Vasenin on the TV channel "Russia 1" noted that Efremov’s guilt was confirmed by his own testimony.

“Efremov’s guilt is confirmed by the video recording, as well as his own testimonies,” he said.

The deputy chief of the Moscow State Traffic Safety Inspectorate, Alexei Diokin, in turn, noted that for 2019 and 2020, the actor did not have fines for drunk driving. At the same time, over the past year and a half, he has registered 50 administrative offenses in the field of traffic, for the most part they are associated with exceeding the speed limit and marking violations.

“With regard to the payment of administrative fines, all administrative fines for 2019 were paid in full, there are 11 fines for 2020: six were paid, five were not paid, but the payment deadline has not yet expired,” Diokin said.

According to TASS with reference to law enforcement agencies, the employees of the penitentiary inspection put an electronic bracelet on Mikhail Efremov, which will monitor his being under house arrest.

“The employees of the penitentiary inspection explained to Efremov the rights and obligations in accordance with the restrictions imposed by the court,” the agency’s source explained.

In turn, a source in RIA Novosti in law enforcement said that police officers conducted investigative actions in the Ulysses pub, where, presumably, Efremov was resting before he got behind the wheel of his car. In particular, camcorder recordings were checked. The results of the verification are not known.

On the eve of the Honored Artist of Russia, they chose a preventive measure in the form of house arrest for two months, until August 9. During a meeting held in the Tagansky District Court of Moscow, Efremov himself called the "monstrous" incident on the evening of June 8. On that day, the actor, driving a Jeep Grand Cherokee in the Smolenskaya Square area, drove into the oncoming lane, collided with a small van on the Lada base, whose driver, employee of Delikateska.ru company Sergey Zakharov, having suffered multiple injuries, died in intensive care of the Research Institute named after Sklifosovsky.

Interviewed by RT experts who analyzed the accident video and driver behavior, concluded that Efremov probably fell asleep at the wheel just before the collision.

At the same time, the representative of the injured party, Alexander Dobrovinsky, said that none of Mikhail Efremov’s entourage contacted or offered compensation to the family of the deceased.

“No one contacted the family of the deceased: neither Efremov himself nor his representatives. As far as I understand, Zakharov’s relatives are no longer ready for reconciliation with the accused at further stages of the process, ”TASS quoted him as saying.

In addition, Dobrovinsky told RIA Novosti the victims are considering that a civil claim for damages will be filed in the future. The lawyer also said that the funeral of Sergei Zakharov will be held on Thursday, June 11, in Ryazan.

“Tomorrow at seven in the morning the relatives will leave Moscow with the body and come for the funeral service to the Church of Our Lady of Kazan in the village of Konstantinovo. This will happen at about 9-10 in the morning, ”said the dean, Archpriest Gennady Cherkasov.
