Will they keep their promise? Two detainees who escaped last week from their prison in Rome (Italy) have left a word promising that they will return as soon as they have resolved their family problems, reports the daily La Repubblica on Tuesday .

Davad Zukanovic, 40, and Lil Ahmetovic, 46, two Roma cousins, said in their mail that their children were in bad shape, possibly due to a history of drug trafficking, and that they should protect them. They add that they had to flee from Rebibbia prison because their wives were also imprisoned. So they had to go and resolve the situation themselves.

They face an additional 5 year sentence

The two prisoners sawed the bars of their cell with a file. They then made a kind of rope out of fire hoses, before cutting barbed wire with scissors to leave the prison compound. Convicted of concealment and fraud, the two cousins, who should have been released from prison in 2029, promised in their letters to return "as soon as possible," the newspaper said.

"Now that they have fled from Rebibbia, they have however committed the crime of escape and risk an additional sentence of 5 years in prison. Perhaps this sentence will convince them to forget the promise and write goodbye instead of goodbye, now that they are free, "concludes the daily.
