In 2018, the municipality of Sorsele decided that those who have holiday homes on municipal land in connection with Lapplatsen, a Sami cultural environment, in Ammarnäs would be allowed to cut loose and buy the plots.

This was Ammarnäs' joint association strongly critical when it was believed that it would all lead to a commercialization of the area.

The joint association appealed the municipality's decision to the Land and Environmental Court, now the court announces that the municipality's decision has been annulled.

- It's gratifying. Now the authorities may understand that one must preserve the Sami culture, says Aina Jonsson from Ammarnäs joint association.

Conflict that stirs up emotions

The lawyer Magnus Norberg represents the homeowners. He believes that the new detailed plan that the Land and Environmental Court decided to abolish clearly states that the homeowners are extremely limited in how they are allowed to design the houses, and that it would not lead to any commercialization of the area.

- My clients are unhappy, they wanted this case to be clear.

Magnus Norberg and his clients have so far not decided on how to proceed with the case.

Sorsele Municipality tells SVT Nyheter Västerbotten that they have not been able to decide on a possible appeal.
