09 June 2020Big surprises at the first vote of the 2020 Witch Prize, tonight live streaming from the Temple of Hadrian in Rome, due to the pandemic. In the race for the final victory will be a sestina and not a five, led by the superfavorite Sandro Veronesi and his 'Il colibri' which had 210 votes.

In second place on equal merit are two authors of the Ostrich: Gianrico Carofiglio with 'The measure of time' (Einaudi) and Valeria Parrella with 'Almarina' (Einaudi), both with 199 votes.

Gian Arturo Ferrari followed with 'Italian boy' (Feltrinelli), 181 votes and Daniele Mencarelli with 'Everything asks for salvation' (Mondadori), 168 votes, also proclaimed winner of the 2020 Young Witch Award by the President of the Chamber, Roberto Fico, in connection remotely.

But the real twist is the repechage of the first author published by a small or medium publisher, foreseen by the 2015 management committee safeguard clause, applied for the first time, which brings Jonathan Bazzi in with 'Fever' (Fandango LIbri) , 137 votes, leading to six running writers.

The six finalists at the # PremioStrega2020 are in order of vote:

Already the 2006 Strega Prize with 'Calm Chaos' which has become a film by Antonello Grimaldi, starring Nanni Moretti, Veronesi in 'The Hummingbird' descends in a powerful way to the roots of that energy that annihilates and it revives going back and forth in time.

On July 2, the announcement of the winner at the Villa Giulia Nymphaeum live on Rai3. "It will be a less crowded evening than the other years but in the historical place of the Prize since 1953", explained the director of the Bellonci Foundation, Stefano Petrocchi.
