The night of January 10, 2004 Sara drives to Knutby. She has bought a weapon in Stockholm - this night she will commit a murder and an attempted murder.

Sara declined to be interviewed about the time in Knutby - but instead wrote a letter that she gave Mission Review permission to publish in its entirety:

“I wish that time could be turned back, that this would never have happened but unfortunately it is not possible. It is a great heavy grief for me , ”she writes in the letter.

"We listened to it and followed it"

Sara comes to Knutby in the 90s, 21 years old, to attend the parish's Bible School. During this time, the doctrine that Åsa Waldau is the bride of Christ is established in the church. Helge Fossmo, who stands close to Åsa Waldau and is one of the most influential pastors in the congregation, begins a relationship with Sara.

In the congregation a destructive culture emerges, where members are told whether they are "right" or "wrong".

- If you were right, it is simply that you were approved by Åsa at the very end, that she had approved one. If you were not approved by her then you were wrong and what was right one day could be wrong the other day and vice versa, says Emma Gembäck, former pastor of the congregation.

One of those who learns early on that she is "wrong" is Sara.

- I remember how Åsa talked about her, thought incredibly bad about her, really hated her. So I think a large part of the treatment she received was because of Åsa's view of her as she spread, says Emma Gembäck.

The fact that Sara is considered "wrong" means that she becomes isolated with Helge Fossmo. Sara writes in her letter:

“It was only I in the congregation who was the Damned, with no possibility of pardon. Completely offset. Devil's gear. My place was in hell. "

- The child girl gets past freezing, she gets evil in another way. And it is a terrible abuse perpetrated against her in that, says Peter Gembäck, former pastor and pastor of the congregation.

"You are a slave Sara"

After the murder and the attempted murder, Sara is sentenced to forensic psychiatric care. Helge Fossmo is sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder charge and the attempted murder charge, a sentence recently set at 27 years. During the 2004 trial, Helge Fossmo denied the charges, but his attitude has changed over time.

When Helge Fossmo was heard in district court to get his sentence timed at the end of last year, he said that he is fully aware that his choices and actions caused a person's death and a person but for life - but that he cannot sign the criminal charge or the prosecutor's deed description.

"It doesn't match reality, the picture is much more complicated than that," he said.

Assignment review has applied to Åsa Waldau for an interview, she has chosen to write a letter. She has not answered any specific questions about Sara, but about the destructive environment in the congregation she writes:

“I thought I was right. I thought I was helping people stay free - be right before Jesus. And I was raised and expected to act against evil. "

Since the congregation closed down in 2018, many have testified about how they were treated while they were considered "wrong". Several abusive cases were dealt with during a trial earlier this year when the former pastors, Åsa Waldau, Urban and Peter Gembäck, who reported themselves and their former colleagues, were prosecuted.

"It was shocking to me"

In March, Åsa Waldau was convicted of assault in eight cases against five different plaintiffs, Urban for sexual exploitation of a dependent person and Peter Gembäck for assault and unlawful coercion.

Sara has been free since 2011. She writes in her letter that she wants all former members and relatives now to get redress.

“Today, as I read and read the stories of other former members, I see that their experience, fear, horror, despair, annihilation, hopelessness and darkness are the same as I went through. It was shocking to me to admit that the former members had gone through similar degradation. "

In a series of six parts, Assignment review tells the whole story of the sect in Knutby - the first three episodes are now on SVT Play.
