In December last year, the municipality of Västerås approved a digitization plan for the schools in Västerås. The goal of the strategy is to give all pupils and teachers access to the digital tools and develop a digital competence.

- Over the past year, we have made a major investment in the child and education administration on how we work with the digital issues. The digitalization tragedy points out which way we want to go with the digitization issue, says Johanna Andersson.

Inevitable development

According to the City of Västerås, digitization means that it wants to use digital technology to enhance learning. According to the municipality, development is inevitable and therefore the school plays an important role when children and young people learn how to apply the new technology.

Examples of this initiative are ICT in Västerås which will support and educate the schools. Another is Expectrum, which educates both teachers and pupils in digital competence in the municipality.

"Technology development controls social development so much now, so being digital is a form of democratic right," says Lisa Kilestad, site manager at expectrum.
