The UDPS finally has a candidate to replace Jean-Marc Kabund as first vice-president of the National Assembly. Her name is Patricia Nseya Mulela. Elected from Likasi, in Haut-Katanga, she is a young lawyer who has campaigned in the UDPS for years. National Secretary for Solidarity and Humanitarian Action, she is presented as the consensus candidate nominated by President Félix Tshisekedi himself.
According to our sources, UDPS national deputies asked him themselves Sunday to choose from the sixteen candidates who have displayed their ambitions for the post of first vice-president of the National Assembly. And, according to an internal source in the presidential party, the head of state received the two rival tendencies which disputed the direction of the party.
At this meeting, explains a participant, Jean-Marc Kabund was conspicuous by his absence, he who had sworn to recover his post at any cost by legal process, threatening to punish any UDPS deputy who dares to apply for his replacement. This was without taking into account President Tshisekedi who has just said no to the empty chair policy, says a UDPS deputy satisfied. Patricia Nseya presented at the last moment is finally alone in the race for a vote to be held on Friday.
