The coronavirus crisis has halted a large part of activity in France and in Paris, in particular the work to create and extend the new public transport lines in the Paris region. Between March 16 and 18, a very large majority of the RATP and Ile-de-France Mobilités shipyards were indeed stopped following the announcement of containment measures at the national level. To resume today "gradually".

All of the main RATP and Île-de-France Mobilités infrastructure projects have restarted "gradually" and around 2,500 employees have resumed their activities on the various sites, indicate the two railway authorities. A restart phase involving all major projects had already even started since the end of April. But what are the impacts of these stops on construction sites?

"This could result in delays on certain sites"

“At this date, it is not possible to give an estimate of the impact of this phase of shutdown, partial or total depending on the sites, of nearly two months and then resumption at a slowed rate of the sites ”, Announces within Ile-de-France Mobilités.

“All the calendar readjustments are not finished. We know that confinement has consequences for the work carried out, but we do not yet know its extent. But this could result in delays on certain sites, ”recognizes Grégoire de Lasteyrie, mayor (LR) of Palaiseau (Essonne), special delegate for new mobility at the regional council and administrator of Ile-de-France Mobilités. And to clarify: "We are doing everything to limit them as much as possible". Metro, RER, tram lines, etc. 20 Minutes takes stock of the sites that have restarted.

Line 4 and 14

The RATP continued - at a reduced rate and respecting health recommendations, ensures the management - the main tests for the two important projects that are the automation of line 4 of the metro and the extension of line 14 to the north. "This enabled the new centralized command and control station for line 4 of the metro to be put into service in early May," said RATP. The extension of Line 4 aims to connect the current terminus, Mairie de Montrouge, to the future terminus station of Bagneux - Lucie Aubrac. This represents the creation of two stations in Montrouge and Bagneux, an extension of 1.8 km (digging of the tunnel) to which is added the rehabilitation of the existing tunnel behind the station of Mairie de Montrouge (in total 2.7 km) .

The gradual resumption of construction sites was also carried out on May 4 on the 4 stations heading north on line 14. If this extension to the town hall of St-Ouen was originally to be delivered in the summer of 2020, IdF Mobilités takes good care today to give the slightest delivery date, invoking "many parameters not mastered to have a clear vision on construction sites". In the south, civil engineering works have resumed since April 27, with the restarting of the digging of the 3 tunneling machines: Claire (from Pont de Rungis to Jean Prouvé) on April 27, followed by Allison (from Jean Prouvé to Maison Blanche) on April 28 and Koumba (from Morangis to Pont de Rungis) May 11. In total, 100% of the construction sites of the 14 south extension restarted this week.

RER

The renovation of the Auber station, emblematic of the RER station renovation project, "has resumed since the beginning of May," recalls Grégoire de Lasteyrie. A gradual resumption of work has also started since the end of April-beginning of May in Vincennes, Torcy and Nogent-sur-Marne (RER A), Robinson and Croix de Berny (RER B) and, in the coming days, in Nanterre Ville (RER A). Other works to modernize the train and RER networks have also resumed under the contracting authority of the SNCF and SNCF network as well as the extension of the RER E to the West.

Trams

On the tram side, construction sites are also resuming. On the T9, a gradual resumption of the site took place from April 14 with 10 to 20% of the workforce. The teams then ramped up to reach a workforce of 250 on site at the end of May, we note within Ile-de-France Mobilités. Ultimately, this new line 9 will link Paris to Orly-ville, in 30 minutes. For its part, work on the T10 tram resumed at the end of the containment period, in particular the urban development work on avenue Paul Langevin at Plessis-Robinson and on avenue de la Division-Leclerc in Châtenay- Malabry.

A major project, Tram 12 express, which embodies "the regional desire to strengthen the network of public transport from suburbs to suburbs," says Ile-de-France Mobilités, has also resumed. Just like the T13 tram which will link Saint-Cyr-l'École and Saint-Germain-en-Laye over a distance of 18.8 km.
