Rescuers were alerted around 4 p.m. Sunday but could not do anything. When they arrived, the Morbihan firefighters could only note the death of a 71-year-old man who bathed off the tip of Bile, in Pénestin, a stone's throw from Loire-Atlantique. According to Ouest-France , it was witnesses to the scene who gave the alert after spotting an inanimate body in the water.

This accident is in addition to the many dramas at sea that have been observed on the Brittany coast in recent weeks. Morbihan was particularly affected with the death of a surfer in Plouharnel, a freediver in Sarzeau, a teenager in Erdeven or a fisherman off Ploemeur.

Concerned, the authorities have launched multiple calls for caution. Long confinement and lack of physical activity are advanced as a possible explanation for these repeated accidents. Rescue services remind boaters to make sure that they are in good physical condition and that their equipment is in good condition before getting into the water.
