Rennes defender Jérémy Morel has signed up for at least one season in Lorient and is thus preparing, at 36, to end his career in his training club, the Breton club, which is making its return to Ligue 1, announced on Monday evening.

"I am proud to be able to return to my training club. FC Lorient has managed to return to Ligue 1 after three years on the lower floor and I am inevitably very pleased with his return. I came here to help him s "install again at the highest level," said the player, who signed up for one season and another as an option, in the release.

Arrived last summer for a year in Rennes, he made a start to the season noticed by his regularity, his rigor and his state of mind, before seeing his season cut short by physical worries in January and the suspension of the championship in March.

But the Red and Black club did not wish to extend it. On the other hand, according to several media, Brest and Lens had shown interest in this experienced and versatile defender, capable of evolving as a central or lateral left defender.

Born and trained in Lorient, Jérémy Morel made his professional debut there and played 231 games before joining Marseille (2011-2015) and Lyon (2015-2019) and then entering Rennes. At the same time, he also donned the jersey of Madagascar, where his father was born, for seven selections since 2018.

"Jérémy is a player with a great deal of experience. Used to the struggles at the top of the Ligue 1 table and to European matches, it is obvious that Jérémy will be able to bring us his experience, his leadership and his high level requirements", s is pleased Lorient coach Christophe Pélissier in the club's press release.
