Angers has recruited the international Espoirs de Bordeaux goalkeeper Paul Bernardoni for four years, who has distinguished himself over the past two seasons on loan to Nîmes, the club announced on Monday evening.

"A great adventure begins," said the 23-year-old doorman on social networks.

According to several media, he is transferred for more than 7 million euros and a series of bonuses, in particular a percentage on resale and a bonus for Bordeaux in case of selection in the France team.

In Angers, Paul Bernardoni comes to take over from Ludovic Butelle, 37, one of the architects of the recovery in Ligue 1 in 2015 and holder of Angers goals since 2018 but who the club now sees more as goalkeeper N.2.

His contract will take effect on July 1, the date on which training must resume in Angers. He will find his former teammates in Nîmes Antonin Bobichon, Sada Thioub and Rachid Alioui, who had taken the road to Angers last summer.

Born in Evry, Paul Bernardoni made his professional debut in Troyes and also evolved in Clermont (2017-2018), where he was elected best goalkeeper in Ligue 2 in 2018.

Regularly selected in the Blues youth teams, he won Euro U19 in 2016. He was the titular goalkeeper of the France Espoirs team at Euro 2019 in Italy and tipped to also play this role at the Olympic Games in Tokyo.
