The tortoise discovered in Saint-André - Sdis 66

The firefighters intervened Sunday morning, in Saint-André, a town in the Pyrénées-Orientales, alerted by residents of the presence in the middle of the street of a funny creature: a snapping turtle.

This rare species, native to Canada and the United States, can be dangerous because of its particularly sharp jaw.

Intervention yesterday morning on SAINT-ANDRÉ to rescue a snapping turtle, a rare species.
The ELNE barracks were mobilized to recover it and drop it off at the Vallée des Tortues.

Deposited in the Valley of turtles

The firefighters recovered the animal, using a landing net, before depositing it in the Valley of the turtles, an animal park in the department which shelters nearly 500 species of turtles. We do not know, for the moment, how this animal could end up on the street.

Several turtles from this hope had already been discovered during the month of May, near the Canal du Midi, in Toulouse.
