Part of the shops began to reopen Sunday, May 7 in Algeria as part of the relaxation of the measures taken to fight against the coronavirus, partial containment remaining in force in most of the country until June 13.

The government's "roadmap" unveiled on Thursday provides for a "progressive, flexible and adapted to the epidemiological" deconfinement operation with a resumption of part of the commercial activities.

Travel agencies, real estate agencies, companies in the construction and public works sector, hairdressers for men (not for women), artisans, fast food (only takeaway), galleries are notably authorized to open on Sunday art, sports, game and toy stores and pastries.

In addition, all traders are required to comply with strict prevention measures.

A deconfinement in two stages 

The second phase of the deconfinement plan, which is due to start on June 14, will concern other activities such as taxi travel and catering. 

At the end of May, the government extended partial home confinement until June 13 in 44 of the 48 wilayas (prefectures) in Algeria and completely lifted it in the four other prefectures, including three in the extreme desert south of the country. .

Containment measures resulted in a curfew from 5 p.m. to 7 a.m. (4 p.m. - 6 a.m. GMT) in the 16 most affected wilayas, including Algiers and Oran, and from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. in the others.

Schools and mosques still closed

The closure of schools and universities, stadiums, mosques and village halls remains in effect.

Since March 19, the authorities have prohibited regroupings and suspended all means of public and private public transport within cities and between provinces, as well as rail traffic.

The wearing of a sanitary mask has been compulsory since May 24 and offenders are sentenced to heavy fines.

According to the Scientific Committee for Monitoring the Evolution of the Pandemic, 10,050 cases of contamination have been officially listed in Algeria, including 698 deaths, since the registration of the first case on February 25.
