For his part, security expert Hisham al-Hashemi said about al-Amiri’s resignation that he “may be preparing for an executive position, and unconfirmed leaks claiming that he may take over the presidency of the Popular Mobilization Committee, and this came after a proposal submitted by Iranian General Ismail Qacani during his visit to Iraq last week.”
