Algeria started this Sunday, June 7, the first phase of a deconfinement which wants to be "progressive, flexible and adapted to the epidemiological situation". After eight weeks of confinement, certain types of activity are authorized to resume, including around a third of the businesses.

The second phase of deconfinement will be effective in a week, Sunday June 14. The night curfew, decreed in 44 of the 48 wilayas, remains in force as well as the closure of schools and universities, stadiums, mosques and village halls.

Thus, with this first phase of deconfinement, for two hundred thousand traders and craftsmen, this Sunday was almost a day of celebration. Pastries, bookstores, sports shops, art galleries, hairdressers - for men only - or take-out. A total of 25 sectors were able to reopen, provided that strict hygiene measures were observed.

Masks, already compulsory in the street, are used at the doors of shops which must impose disinfectant gels and organize distancing measures.

Travel and real estate agencies are also authorized to resume their activities, as is the strategic building sector which must however ensure the transport and protection of its workers, which makes employers cringe.

Catering and taxis remain prohibited until next Sunday, the date of the second phase of deconfinement, and inter-urban and inter-departmental connections are still extremely limited.

Algeria, which experienced its first case of Covid-19 on February 25, has since registered more than 10,000 people infected and deplored 698 deaths, at the last count.
