Invited to Europe 1 Sunday, United States historian François Durpaire returned to the demonstrations across Europe against racism and police violence that followed the death of George Floyd. "In Germany, in France, many people say: 'we live similar things'," he explains.

INTERVIEW

From the United Kingdom to France via Germany, tens of thousands of people have demonstrated in recent days against racism and police violence, after the death of the American black George Floyd, asphyxiated by a white police officer. Guest historian of Europe 1, the historian specialist of the United States François Durpaire reminds that racism "exists everywhere", and that, if the situations in Europe and in the United States are not the same, "many people say that they are going through similar things with the police. "

"These are not just demonstrations of solidarity for African Americans," he notes. "They are also demonstrations that resonate with national situations".
