The family of Al-Jazeera journalist, Mahmoud Hussein, asked the Egyptian Public Prosecutor to conduct a corona examination for him, after receiving reports of HIV infections inside Tora Cairo-Investigation Prison in which he is being held, and the death of one of his employees.

In the absence of any information about his health status three months ago and not allowing him to visit, his lawyer, Mahmoud Hussein, applied to allow the examination and x-rays to be conducted at the family's expense.

The Egyptian authorities have continued to detain Hussein for more than three years without submitting him to any trial, despite the fact that he has exceeded the period of 24 months specified by Egyptian law as a maximum for pretrial detention.

The colleague was arrested during a routine visit to his family in Egypt, and was not then assigned to a job or press coverage, on December 20, 2016, and since his arrest, the prosecution has renewed his remand more than twenty times, without trial.

On May 23 last year, an Egyptian court decided to release him, but the authorities included him in a new case and decided to hold him in custody.

For the past three years, colleague Mahmoud was subjected to grave violations, and he was kept in solitary confinement for several months, deprived of visits and medical follow-up.

Solidarity with the case of journalist Mahmoud Hussein, more than 18 international organizations concerned with the protection of journalists, freedom of opinion and expression and human rights, have confirmed that the charges against him are malicious and fabricated.

Al-Jazeera Media Network demands the Egyptian authorities to release immediately colleague Mahmoud, and the regime takes full responsibility for his safety, and for violating the principles of human rights and Egyptian laws.
