A few hours before two Parisian rallies against prohibited police violence, police commander Christophe Rouget estimates at the microphone of Europe 1 that "certain leftist extremists" want to reproduce in France the riots that broke out in the United States following the death of George Floyd.

INTERVIEW

"A possibility of a large gathering, and at risk." This is why the authorities have prohibited the rallies which are to take place this Saturday afternoon against police violence. But despite everything, according to information from Europe 1, the police expects the presence of almost 15,000 people including 100 to 200 thugs and members of the ultra-left. There will be "a lot of young people" at these rallies, thus predicted at the microphone of Europe 1 the assistant general secretary of the union of internal security executives (SCSI), Christophe Rouget.

"A strong emotional period"

"Everyone with the images of the murder of George Floyd in mind, we are in a strong emotional period, and many young people who are no longer in school following the health crisis want to go out and share this emotion," says the commander. . But perhaps what worries the police the most is the other part of the demonstration, that made up of "certain left extremists, anti-capitalists, anti-fascists, ultra-yellow, members of identity movements or communitarians who want to import the American riots in France ".

"Unacceptable overflows" during a rally

This is what he said happened "during the demonstration in memory of Adama Traore" Tuesday, in the 17th arrondissement of Paris, a peaceful rally whose dispersion saw clashes break out. "Unacceptable overflows" in the eyes of the commander "with barricades, fires, the blocked device, many provocations and insults towards our police colleagues who had to be very cool".
