Military personnel of the Taman Motor Rifle Division used special new electronic warfare systems RB-301B Borisoglebsk-2, RB-531B ‹Infauna and Samarkand-U during special exercises, the press service of the Russian Defense Ministry said.

Events were held at the Alabino training ground near Moscow. EW systems have been successfully applied for the detection, direction finding and analysis of signals from radio sources.

“Also, the experts complied with the standards for deploying EW systems and disguising them, organized security and defense, and suppressed the signals of radio-controlled landmines and mines,” the website of the Russian military department says.

Electronic strike

The Russian military uses electronic warfare for jamming, detecting and suppressing a variety of radio signals and satellite communications channels. The use of these systems makes it possible to obtain intelligence information, disable equipment, information-control systems and guidance equipment for aircraft, drones and missiles of the enemy.

Electronic warfare systems developed and manufactured in the Russian Federation are capable of creating a protective radar dome over the defended object and delivering an electronic strike on enemy control posts and communication centers. According to the military, the arrival of new types of equipment of this type significantly increases the capabilities of the RF Armed Forces and allows better use of the experience gained in armed conflicts.

According to the Ministry of Defense, the Borisoglebsk-2 complex is one of the most modern domestic electronic warfare systems. It was developed by the Sozvezdie concern (Voronezh) in conjunction with the Tambov Radio Engineering Research Institute "Ether". The complex consists of nine cars with a different set of equipment. All equipment is installed on the advanced multifunctional armored personnel carriers MT-LBu.

“Compared to its predecessors, it (Borisoglebsk-2. - RT ) has an expanded frequency range of radio reconnaissance and electronic suppression means. More powerful stations allow more effective impact on various types of radio-controlled objects. “Borisoglebsk-2” performs radio suppression of control channels for unmanned aerial vehicles, radio-controlled land mines, ”the Russian Defense Ministry said.

Borisoglebsk-2 is also capable of suppressing radio, radio relay and satellite communication channels, control, as well as data transmission of unmanned reconnaissance and strike aircraft. The peculiarity of the complex lies in the fact that it can act on sources of electronic radiation in all frequency ranges, including spare ones, thereby completely violating the control system of enemy troops.

The range of the “Borisoglebsk-2” on the enemy’s objects is not disclosed. However, it is known that he suppresses cellular communications and UAV control signals within a radius of 30 km.

Another unique brainchild of the Constellation concern, which received high marks from the Russian Ministry of Defense, is the RB-531B Infauna complex on the BTR-80 chassis. It is designed for electronic reconnaissance, direction finding, jamming, protection against radio-controlled mine explosive devices, defense of groups of vehicles from aimed fire from small arms by means of small arms by placing an aerosol curtain.

As noted in the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, "Infauna" has no foreign counterparts. The use of the complex can significantly increase the protection of automotive and armored vehicles, as well as personnel due to the unique capabilities to suppress enemy communications and radio-controlled explosive devices.

In the exercises, "Infauna" is used in conjunction with reconnaissance drones "Gunner" and "Orlan." According to Sergey Skokov, deputy director general of the United Instrument-Making Corporation (OPK, which includes the Constellation), this electronic warfare system significantly expands the protection radius of covered mobile objects and "guaranteed suppresses the enemy’s communications and command and control facilities."

"Infauna" is part of the arsenal of airborne and motorized rifle troops, military bases of the Russian Federation in Armenia and Tajikistan. She has proven herself in the hot climates and mountains. The defense industry noted interest in the car from foreign partners.

One of the most powerful and, at the same time, little-known means of electronic warfare of the Russian Armed Forces is the Samarkand family. In the expert community, it was believed that the complex is used to interfere and is capable of paralyzing the control system of large enemy forces.

Open sources say that Samarkand is used to cover military installations located in strategically important directions. So, in April 2017, the Samarkand party was delivered to the Northern Fleet. In May of that year, the military department informed that the Baltic Fleet was armed with Samarkand.

At the end of October 2018, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation posted on the public procurement portal information about its intention to deploy various modifications of the Samarkand in 13 military units located in Belarus, the Jewish Autonomous Region, Moscow, Kaliningrad, Arkhangelsk, Murmansk and Nizhny Novgorod regions, Krasnodar and Primorsky territories.

Inexpensive and effective

According to experts, at present, not a single modern armed conflict, not a single defensive or offensive operation can do without the use of electronic warfare. They allow you to determine the approximate number of enemy groups, its location and reveal the direction of a possible strike.

“Russian electronic warfare systems are suppliers of very valuable information. They can determine the coordinates of enemy units, the intensity of their movement, even if data is exchanged via encrypted channels. Moreover, the enemy is not able to conduct a similar analysis, ”Dmitry Kornev, founder of the Military Russia portal, explained in a conversation with RT.

According to him, electronic warfare systems play a huge role in the system of ensuring air defense. In conjunction with other complexes, they are able to protect hidden objects from precision guided weapons.

“Domestic EW funds help disguise the activities of the covered group in such a way that the enemy is unable to determine where to strike. If he still managed to establish the exact coordinates, then electronic warfare systems can disrupt the operation of cruise missile guidance systems and adjustable bombs, ”said Kornev.

At the same time, Kornev emphasized that Russian electronic warfare equipment is constantly being improved.

“Now powerful radio-electronic systems fit on several transport platforms. Their manufacture does not require large expenses, and the efficiency is very high. This result is achieved thanks to the excellent design school created in the post-war USSR. Her legacy has not been lost and is being enriched with new developments, ”says Kornev.

A similar point of view is held by military expert Yuri Lyamin. In a commentary on RT, he drew attention to the fact that the Russian defense industry has shown serious success in improving jamming stations, which are equipped with electronic warfare equipment.

“The suppression of communications and radio signals makes the enemy on the battlefield virtually deaf and blind. That is why in modern warfare the quality of electronic warfare is so important. The Russian army is equipped with a wide range of various electronic warfare equipment. And we can say that Russia is definitely one of the world leaders in creating effective electronic warfare systems, ”summed up Lyamin.
