Around the world, rallies are increasing to denounce the systemization of racism, while the United States pays tribute on Saturday to George Floyd, this black father asphyxiated by a white police officer. In Canada, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, holding a "Black Lives Matter" T-shirt, knelt on the ground in the midst of a crowd of protesters.

In the wake of the movement against police violence and racism that engulfed the United States, after the death of George Floyd on May 25, similar demonstrations are multiplying in many countries, including France. About 1,500 people marched Friday evening in Rouen, a parade punctuated by a few clashes with the police and which saw the arrest of eight people. They were also numerous in Caen. This Saturday, the Paris police headquarters has banned two rallies planned in the capital.

Prime Minister of Canada kneels

One of the strong images of the week came to us on Friday from Canada: Prime Minister Justin Trudeau kneeling on the ground in the crowd of demonstrators in Ottawa, to much applause, with a "Black Lives Matter" T-shirt ( black lives count), by hand.

He did not speak on the spot, but a few hours earlier, to once again greet this movement, which denounces racial discrimination integrated into society. "Canadians everywhere are standing up to speak out loud against the systemic discrimination that has existed for far too long in our country. And I want to salute their work, tell them that our government will be a partner, and I hope to see thousands more Canadians demonstrate peacefully across the country, "he said.

Rallies in front of the US embassies

On the other side of the world, in Australia, thousands of people also marched on Saturday morning, in Sydney or Melbourne, to denounce racial inequalities in a country where more than 400 Aborigines died while being detained by the police for the past thirty years.

Processions also formed in front of the embassies of the United States in Oslo in Norway and in Vienna in Austria, always with these references to George Floyd, and this slogan: "racism, too, is a pandemic".

Tens of thousands expected in Washington

New massive rallies are expected on Saturday in the United States: especially in North Carolina, where a tribute ceremony is planned in the hometown of George Floyd. Demonstrations are also expected to take place in New York, Miami, or Washington, where the American media are already waiting for tens of thousands of people.
