In the morning of May 28, these armed groups "  set fire to houses, shops, schools, religious buildings and government buildings  " in Macomia, in the province of Cabo Delgado. The NGO Doctors Without Borders says it is ready to provide support to the populations, but requests, to this end, safer access to the regions where the displaced populations are confined.

Joined by RFI, Caroline Gaudron Rose, head of the MSF mission in Mozambique, underlines that the population, hidden in the bush, lacks everything.

MSF is worried about the people who fled Macomia to go into the bush. These people have nothing : no roof, no water, no food. They also do not have access to health care. With the increase in violence in this part of the Cabo Delgado region, the Health Centers have closed, that of Macomia has been damaged. These people have basic needs: we are talking about pregnant women, children suffering from malaria attacks or diarrhea caused by poor water quality. Even among men, when they find themselves sleeping outside, without shelter, there are more problems caused by life in the bush: more malaria and all the problems linked to the lack of food and water  ” she said.

According to the UN, violence in this province of Cabo Delgado has displaced 200,000 people since the end of 2017.
