  • In the pedestrian streets of Nantes, it is not uncommon to come across a delivery man on a scooter.
  • Thursday evening, the police carried out a control operation in the Bouffay district.

“Proliferation of delivery people with scooters in the pedestrian streets (and on the sidewalks and on the bike paths) of the city center. "" Place du Commerce (pedestrian), the Deliveroo scooter deliverers honk you to pass on the spaces (pedestrians) ... It becomes anything "" Hello Uber Eats, how do you explain that more than 80% of your deliverers in Nantes city center use non-electric, noisy scooters and do not respect any of the traffic rules in pedestrian areas? "

In recent months, these kinds of messages have been flourishing on social networks. And you just have to walk around the city center to realize it: even in the small cobbled or narrow streets, it is not uncommon to come across a delivery man on a scooter. A phenomenon that has the gift of annoying residents but also traders. "We will have to put some order in," says Olivier Dardé, the president of the Plein Center shopkeepers association. We see some passing at 30 or 40 km / h in a street where there are families and children. For the past six months or so, it's been going in all directions. We also saw it during confinement. It becomes frankly dangerous. "

Nine tickets for pedestrian traffic

This Thursday, after receiving several complaints, the police conducted a control operation in the Bouffay sector, between 6.30 p.m. and 8.15 p.m. Result, out of 20 mopeds checked, thirteen were irregular. Among them, nine were fined for traffic in the pedestrian area, and were fined "fourth class". Another was pinned for lack of insurance, and his vehicle was impounded. Three other tickets were published, for "defect of BSR", "absence of rear view mirror" and "projecting part", indicates the police.

In these situations, delivery platforms generally report making reminders to the rules of good citizenship to their fleet of delivery men, who work under the self-employed regime. Contacted by 20 Minutes , Uber Eats could not be reached and the company Deliveroo did not wish to follow up.
