When machine driver Dick Eriksson once shot through the large chip pile in the industrial area, the swallows began to build nests in the chip walls.

Over a hundred archways, back swallows have excavated and now the place has been closed off so the swallows may be at peace during their breeding season.

- It is super nice to have more friends at work, says Dick Eriksson.

"The back swallows probably come from the cemetery"

Bird observer Lars Sandberg believes that the colony comes from Öjebyn and the wall at the church.

- It has been noticed that in a short time there have been smaller swallows in the area after making changes in the cemetery. So in all likelihood, it should be this colony that went further and ended up in the chipmunk on Smurfit Kappa, he says.

What Smurfit Kappa will do in the future with the chip piles where the back whales are currently nesting is not determined.
