The G20 countries pledged more than $ 21 billion to combat the Corona virus, while a US company announced that a drug it produced to treat cancer showed preliminary indications of its assistance to patients with the emerging Corona virus.

These developments coincide with the continued increase in the number of HIV infections in several countries in the world, especially in the United States and Brazil, which are still witnessing a steady increase in cases of infection, while in other countries measures to reduce isolation continue after the low number of people living with the virus.

The Group of Twenty announced in a statement at dawn today, Saturday, that "it and the invited countries have led the global efforts to support the fight against the Corona Virus pandemic, which has resulted to date pledges of more than $ 21 billion to support financing global health."

The statement added that "these contributions will be allocated to diagnostic tools, vaccines, treatments and research and development work."

In April, the group called on all countries, NGOs, charitable foundations, and the private sector to help bridge a financial gap of more than eight billion dollars to combat the Corona pandemic.

New drug

On the other hand, the drug Calcoins for the treatment of leukemia - produced by the American company AstraZeneca - showed preliminary indications to help corona's patients overcome the worst stages of the disease.

Eleven patients were breathing with the help of respirators when they started the Calcoense cycle for a period of 10 to 14 days, and eight of them could breathe without the need for a device, according to results reported in a study in which the head of the oncology research department of the company, Jose Basilja, participated.

"These patients were in a very precarious state, and they could have been in a serious stage," Basilja told Reuters. "And within one to three days the majority of these patients have improved in terms of ventilation and the need for oxygen."

On the other hand, the steady rise in the number of HIV infections continued in some countries, led by the United States, which recorded during the last 24 hours more than 20 thousand new cases, bringing the total to more than one million and 894 thousand, according to new data for the American Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, while it reached The number of deaths is more than 108 thousand deaths after the registration of 1035 new cases in one day.

Health experts fear a new outbreak of the epidemic in America in the coming weeks due to the massive demonstrations that are currently registered in more than 40 American cities.

In Brazil - which is the country most affected by the virus in Latin America and the third in terms of the number of infections in the world - data showed the Brazilian Ministry of Health recorded 1005 new deaths, and 30 thousand and 830 new cases of the virus within 24 hours.

This brings the total number of deaths in Brazil to over 35,000, while the number of confirmed infections has exceeded 645,000.

Control the virus

On the other hand, some countries witness a noticeable decrease in the number of infections, including New Zealand, which did not register any new infection with the Corona virus for the 15th day in a row, due to its success in controlling the spread of the virus.

According to a statement issued by the country's Ministry of Health, since the last infection with the virus was recorded on May 22, no new infections have been recorded until Saturday.

The European Union countries announced their intention to lift all travel restrictions that had been imposed due to the Corona virus crisis by the end of this June, according to a statement by German Interior Minister Horst Seehofer.

On Friday, the French authorities also said that they had taken full control of the Corona pandemic, local media reported.

The Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovakia and Slovenia announced the opening of their borders with Austria for the first time after a three-month closure due to the Corona pandemic, as medical and quarantine tests were suspended for travelers.

It is noteworthy that, since its appearance in Wuhan, China, in December last year, the Coronavirus has claimed the lives of more than 390,000 people worldwide, and more than 6.6 million confirmed infections were recorded in 196 countries and regions, and more than 2.8 million people recovered.
