Motala AIF Cycling Club had everything ready. The budget was nailed, club suits ordered for women's and men's teams. Then came the coronapandemin.

- Then we did the whole budget. We reduced a lot of expenses, says Mathilde Egnell, chairman of Motala AIF Cykelklubb.

Clubs that line up with staff during the race are gathered in the Motala AIF Sports Alliance. In addition to the cycling club, there are six other clubs including, the football club, the athletics club, the orienteering team, the ski club, the hockey club and the ice skating club. A large part of the clubs' finances are based on income from voluntary work in connection with the cycling week in Motala.

As income now decreases, it is important to save at the other end. All expenses are reviewed to allow the clubs to winter.

Millions in revenue are gone

Naturally, the Vättern Round itself also loses revenue. It's about millions of kronor. The belief is that you can manage on a plus-minus-zero result this year. The registration rules state that if a race has to be canceled for some reason, participants can get back 50 percent of the registration fee. So some money goes into the Vätternrundan organization despite the fact that the year has been canceled. Costs are also declining as thousands of cyclists will not need food and service during all races normally run during the bike week in Motala.
