A young student was victim of a triple fracture of the jaw after a LBD shot on December 18, 2018, on the sidelines of a visit to Biarritz by the then Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jean-Yves le Drian. A police officer will be tried on June 26.

A police officer will be tried on June 26 in Bayonne for "unintentional violence" after an LBD shot that injured a young woman's face during a demonstration in late 2018 in Biarritz, we learned on Saturday from the lawyer for the victim.

"They will not be able to avoid public debate"

"The subject here is a problem of maintaining order. They will not be able to avoid public debate," said Sophie Bussière, AFP, stressing the "chance of the calendar" which will involve this trial in a context of denunciation of police violence. Her client, Lola Villabriga, a 19-year-old art student, suffered a triple jaw fracture due to an LBD shot on December 18, 2018 during a demonstration on the sidelines of the Minister of Foreign Affairs' visit to Biarritz then, Jean-Yves Le Drian, as part of the preparation for the G7 summit, planned for the following summer in the Basque seaside city. "Yellow vests" in particular took part in this anti-G7 rally in front of the Grande Plage, in the heart of the city.

Lola Villabriga, who had been entitled to 45 days of temporary incapacity for work, had filed a complaint against X in January 2019 for "aggravated violence with a weapon by a person responsible for public authority". The accused police officer was able to be identified after investigations by the IGPN and the police.
"It is already satisfying that there are prosecutions and, above all, that it was quick," said Ms. Bussière. "It is rare in this kind of business."
