It was Annelie Manberger's own tough upbringing that early arose the idea of supporting other vulnerable children. Now the family outside Åkersberga has been on call and family home for many years.

- We have had almost 30 children with us over the years. It can be anything from small children to soon-to-be-grown teenagers, so the assignments are very different, says Annelie Manberger.

Great need for family homes in the county

The need for on-call homes and family homes is high in Österåkers municipality as well as in many of Stockholm's municipalities. At present, ten children and youth in Österåker are waiting to be placed in permanent family homes.

- Some of them are on-call and some are to be placed from their homes. We have worked to recruit new family homes so that all these children can be placed before the summer, says Pauline Gröholt, unit manager for family home care in Österåkers municipality.

More difficult with home visits

The extensive recruitment process is one reason why investments can be delayed. Corona pandemic has made the process even more difficult.

- We do a thorough investigation before we approve families. We do in-depth interviews, home visits and have conversations with the children. Now we have had to work up a digital way of working. But we always make home visits before we place a child, says Pauline Gröholt.
