Taiwan, China, June 4: In recent years, the phenomenon of declining birthrates in Taiwan has become more and more serious, and it has become a "tsunami" for primary school enrollment. According to Taiwan's "China Times", due to the declining birthrate, the number of primary school enrollment in Chiayi County in the 2020 school year has dropped by more than 50% compared with 12 years ago. The number of freshmen in other mountainous elementary schools is zero, and the school size is getting smaller and smaller.

According to reports, after the three graduates of Dahu Primary School in Fanlu Township, Chiayi County left only 10 students this year, Ruili Primary School, located in the tourist area, has not brought vitality to the tourism industry, and has created a new number of students since 1994. It was zero for the first time; Taihe Elementary School, which had not recruited first-year freshmen for two consecutive years, had no newborns for three years in the school district, resulting in the absence of first-year freshmen in the new school year, leaving only 15 students in three classes.

In addition to the declining birthrate crisis in mountainous primary schools, cities are also facing the problem of decreasing the number of new students. According to reports, the number of primary school freshmen registered in Tainan City in the 2020 school year was 15,198, a decrease of 394 from last year. One of the primary school freshmen was zero, and another 52 were single digits.

In response to the growing declining birthrate, the head of the education department of the Taiwan authorities, Wu Guomin, said that there is currently no problem of excessive teacher quotas and mergers. He called on all primary schools to promote the development of characteristics to attract parents through the transformation of characteristics, so as to overcome the declining birthrate crisis.
