The head of Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (Aqmi), Abdelmalek Droukdal, was killed by the French army during an operation on Wednesday June 3 in northern Mali, the Minister announced on Friday June 5 des Armées Florence Parly on her Twitter account.

According to Florence Parly, Abdelmalek Droukdal commanded all of the Qaida groups in North Africa and the Sahel strip, including JNIM, one of the main terrorist groups active in the Sahel.
