Each year in conjunction with the student, the County Administrative Board launches a campaign aimed at young people's alcohol drinking, as they know that many young people come into contact with alcohol at school closures and holidays. The campaign aims to remind parents to talk to their children about alcohol, and also other drugs.

"There is nothing you can say when you hug your child in the hall, but it should be an everyday conversation," says Lena Nyman, ANDT ANDT (alcohol, drugs, doping, tobacco) coordinator at the County Administrative Board in Västmanland.

In addition, this year the problem looks different. With the corona virus, the arranging student parties have been canceled and the summer is expected to be characterized by social distance and restrictions.

In a press release, the County Administrative Board in Västmanland states that police in several parts of the country have testified that it has been messy outside as many activities for young people have been suspended due to covid-19. At the same time, fewer adults are moving out in the evenings.

- We want to remind parents and adults that we should be afraid of our teenagers. They can't really handle this themselves, they don't know how much they can withstand and so on, says Lena Nyman.

Young people want parents to talk about alcohol

The County Administrative Board also refers to a survey conducted by Systembolaget's independent subsidiary IQ, which shows that 9 out of 10 young people between the ages of 14 and 17 want parents to talk to them about alcohol.

- We adults should talk to our children about alcohol and drugs. We adults should not crave alcohol. We should settle in, care and try to find out what they should do and where they should be. Make sure the teens and their friends are connected so that no one gets into an accident, says Lena Nyman.

- It will be a different summer, which of course affects our youth as much as us adults.
