Science and Technology Daily News (Reporter Chen Chao) Kagawa University, Japan, has developed a patient isolation method to prevent the transmission of new coronavirus during digestive system endoscopy and abdominal ultrasound examination.

To inhibit the spread of aerosols, the most important thing is to place the surgical object in a protective box and create a negative pressure in the box. For gastroscopy and ultrasound of the abdomen, a method of isolating patients using a disposable plastic box with continuous aerosol suction was designed based on the same concept. By inserting a continuous suction pipette into the box, negative pressure was successfully achieved.

For colonoscopy, the research team designed a method of using diapers and a probe cover for abdominal ultrasound to prevent virus splashing. Viral stools containing viruses are absorbed by diapers with high liquid absorption, and the aerosol discharged from the anus is sealed by the probe cover covering the endoscope.
