On January 24, 2019 , Angela Gui, daughter of Gui Minhai, came to Stockholm for the meeting that Sweden's China Ambassador Anna Lindstedt invited. The meeting lasted for several days at a hotel in central Stockholm.

On February 3 , Angela Gui said in an interview with SvD that she had a meeting in Sweden with Chinese representatives regarding her father.

China's Swedish Ambassador is on the SVT Agenda and said that the acknowledgments made by Gui Minhai in Chinese state television have not been enforced.

On February 13 , Angela Gui wrote about the meeting on her blog detailing when the meeting took place and that it was Sweden's China Ambassador Anna Lindstedt who arranged it.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the meeting should be investigated because they claimed that they had become aware of the meeting afterwards.

For the negotiations to go the way Angela Gui was asked by Chinese businessmen not to tell anyone about the meeting and try to get Swedish media to stop paying attention to the case. Angela Gui told me that it happened in a threatening way.

On February 14, it became known that the Security Police, Säpo, had initiated a preliminary investigation led by prosecutors at the National Security Office with the criminal classification "autonomy in negotiation with foreign power".

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the ambassador was called home.

On February 15 , SVT News requested the e-mail communication between Anna Lindstedt and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2019. But the embassy in Beijing chose to mask the messages because of confidentiality.

On February 16, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs wants to clarify itself and now believes that no one working with the Gui Minhai case had any knowledge of the meeting. The day before, Foreign Minister Margot Wallström (S) had said that the Foreign Ministry did not know about the meeting and that the incident was taken very seriously.

In addition to Angela Gui, the author included Kurdo Baksi and Chinese connoisseurs Cecilia Lindqvist and Torbjörn Lodén. All had, among other things, signed a public appeal for Gui Minhai's release in the summer of 2018.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs did not answer the question if there were other people then, and if so, who had knowledge of the meeting that took place in Sweden.

On February 17 , several Swedish politicians such as the moderates Ulf Kristersson and the left-wing party's Jonas Sjöstedt, as well as Angela Gui, demanded that the Foreign Ministry publish what has happened.

On February 18, SVT News reveals that the prosecutor has decided on a milder crime classification than Säpo suggested in his investigation. According to the prosecutor's decision, Anna Lindstedt is  reasonably  suspect. It is the lower degree of suspicion. And with the prosecutor's heading, the China Ambassador risks a maximum of two years in prison for his actions. Säpo had described the crime as " unfaithfulness  in negotiating with foreign power", a crime that can give  at least   two years in prison and up to ten years in prison.

On February 19 , the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that they will send an inspector to the Swedish embassy in Beijing, which is tasked with reviewing the activities of the foreign authorities and trying to get a clearer picture of what happened at the secret meeting in Stockholm about the imprisoned publisher Gui Minhai.

The prosecutor wrote in a press release that no person has yet been served suspected of crime. The preliminary investigation is still ongoing and should it be prosecuted, Anna Lindstedt could be sentenced to two years in prison.

On March 18 , Anna Lindstedt applied for a public defender after being served on suspicion of a violation of national security.

On March 20, her defense lawyer Conny Cedermark writes in an email to SVT News that Anna Lindstedt denies the crime and welcomes an investigation.

On May 9, Prosecutor Hans Ihrman states that Anna Lindstedt was served on suspicion of crime, says Ekot.

On November 15, China's embassy threatens the government of Minister of Culture Amanda Lind awards the Swedish PEN's Tucholsky Prize to Gui Minhai.

On December 5, China's ambassador announces that trade with Sweden will be restricted following the government's handling of the Gui Minhai case, reports the Gothenburg Post.

On December 9, Sweden's former ambassador to China, Anna Lindstedt, is indicted for unauthorized conduct in negotiation with a foreign power.

On December 19, SVT Nyheter's division chief Anne Lagercrantz questions that an SVT employee was called as a witness in the trial.

On February 25, 2020 , Gui Minhai is sentenced to ten years in prison in China.

On March 17, two days before the trial would begin, it was postponed due to illness.

On June 5, the trial of Anna Lindstedt will start.
