Japan's Yomiuri newspaper said on Thursday that Japan will consider several options, such as fewer fans and mandatory tests for the Corona virus, in order to hold a "simple" Olympics next year and avoid canceling the tournament.

John Coates, head of the IOC's inspection committee for the Olympic Games, said that the lack of treatment for the Corona virus threatens the games and that organizers must plan for a "totally different" tournament if no evidence of the end of the Coruna epidemic appears.

Yumiuri said - quoting sources in the government and the organizing committee - that mandatory tests for all audiences in addition to athletes, coaches and officials and imposing restrictions on the movements of athletes inside and outside the Olympic Village are among the options that Japan will discuss with the International Olympic Committee.

Last March, the International Olympic Committee and the Japanese government made an unprecedented decision to postpone the Olympics - which was supposed to start next month - for a year due to the outbreak of the virus, ruling out the postponement of the tournament until 2021.

The Tokyo Olympic Organizing Committee will hold its regular press conference later Thursday, and the leaks of the Japanese newspaper are expected to be a topic of discussion during the press conference.

The virus has infected more than 6.4 million people worldwide and has killed about 380,000 people.

Japan avoided what happened in countries such as the United States and Brazil, as the number of injuries reached about 17 thousand with the death of nine hundred people so far.
