The rally in Finland that counts for the WRC World Rally Championship scheduled to take place in August has been canceled, the championship promoter said on Wednesday.

"Even if the situation in Finland and internationally has improved, there are too many health and safety risk factors to organize this event when there are only two months left" to organize it, says the WRC by quoting a press release from the organizer AKK Sports.

This test was to be held from August 6 to 9.

The organizers studied the possibility of postponing the rally later in the year but finally gave up given the uncertainties about the risks, the same source said.

This cancellation follows that of the Kenya rally which was to be held in July.

The first three events of the WRC championship season took place between January and mid-March and Frenchman Sébastien Ogier (Toyota) leads the driver classification.

The three rounds scheduled between April and June have been postponed sine die (Argentina, not before the 4th quarter of 2020, and Italy) or canceled (Portugal).

The next scheduled event is the New Zealand rally scheduled for September 3-6.
