From La Rochelle to Pessac, via Biarritz and Bayonne, the second round of municipal elections promises to be tight in several cities of New Aquitaine. - M.Bosredon / Bob Edme AP / Jeff Blackler REX / SIPA

  • In the metropolis of Bordeaux, the municipalities of Pessac, Villenave d'Ornon, Saint-Médard-en-Jalles, will be watched on the evening of the second round.
  • In the Pyrénées-Atlantiques, change is in the air in Biarritz and Bayonne.
  • Poitiers, Cognac, La Rochelle, Bergerac can also reserve surprises.

In New Aquitaine, there will not only be Bordeaux to watch on the evening of June 28. The situation is indeed tense in several large cities in the region, as well as in several municipalities in the metropolitan area. 20 Minutes takes stock of the situation with a view to the second round of municipal elections.

In Bordeaux Métropole

In Villenave d'Ornon, the outgoing mayor Patrick Pujol (various right) had narrowly missed the election in the first round with 48.38%, and finds himself suddenly forced into a second round against Stéphanie Anfray who had achieved 31 , 46%, and which now weighs almost 43% after the merger of the two lists on the left. In Pessac, the outgoing mayor of various right Franck Raynal (45.41% in the first round) is in a delicate situation, since he too has to face a union of the left in the second round. Led by Sébastien Saint-Pasteur, this new list potentially weighs almost 48%…

In Saint-Médard-en-Jalles, the outgoing mayor, Jacques Mangon (various right), was in difficulty with 37.98%, but gave himself some air by joining forces with the walker Stéphane Bessière (17.13 %). But the duel will still be tight against Stéphane Delpeyrat, who weighs almost 45% after his alliance with Cécile Marenzoni. In Mérignac, the outgoing mayor, Alain Anziani (42.33%), allied to environmentalists (17.67%) in the second round, will be a little quieter against Thierry Millet (various right, 17.10%) , and to the candidate LREM Bruno Sorin (10.26%), who decided to maintain his candidacy.

A quadrangular without the outgoing mayor in Biarritz

The outgoing mayor of Biarritz (Pyrénées-Atlantiques), Michel Veunac (MoDem), announced Tuesday that he was withdrawing his list for the second round. Arriving in fifth position in the first round, with only 12.21% of the vote, Michel Veunac, claiming the support of LREM, approached this second round in very bad shape. Its main opponent, Maider Arosteguy (LR), took the lead with 31.46% of the vote, refusing any alliance. The withdrawal of Michel Veunac leaves four lists in the running for the second round.

In Bayonne, can the town hall switch to the left?

The outgoing centrist mayor Jean-René Etchegaray came out on top in the first round in Bayonne, with 40.33%. But he will have to face a list of union of the left led by Henri Etcheto who, after having merged with Mathieu Bergé, accumulates almost 41% of the votes, in a duel right-left which promises to be relatively undecided. To make the difference, the union of the left hopes to attract the votes of voters of the Baiona green and united list (BVS), which had achieved 13.12% in the first round, but who did not wish to join this union of left.

In Poitiers, the favorite outgoing mayor in a triangular

With 28.21%, the outgoing mayor of Poitiers (Vienne) Alain Claeys (PS), who is seeking a third mandate, had advanced on the evening of the first round the EELV Poitiers Collectif list (23.89%), led by Léonore Moncond ' huy, and the LREM candidate Anthony Brottier (18.37%). A rapprochement between EELV and the other ecological list of Osons 2020, which had approached 10% (9.96%), would have given the Greens a chance to win on June 28. But union was not possible. The attitude of the voters of Osons 2020, will therefore be decisive, in a triangular where the outgoing mayor will start as favorite.

In Cognac, a very tight quadrangular…

There was no union between the two lists on the right between the two towers in Cognac (Charente). It is therefore a quadrangular which will take place on June 28. And a tight quadrangular, since Morgan Berger (various right) came in first with 29.02% of the votes, ahead of Jonathan Munoz (various left, dolphin of the outgoing mayor Michel Gourinchas) with 25.18% of the votes, Jean-Hubert Lelièvre (various right) with 23.15% of the vote and the LREM candidate Damien Bertrand, outdistanced with his 11.45%.

In La Rochelle, the outgoing mayor in difficulty

It is indeed a triangular which will take place in La Rochelle (Charente-Maritime), since the environmental candidate Jean-Marc Soubeste (16.7% of the votes in the first round), former assistant to Jean-François Fountaine, will not ally not with the outgoing mayor, various left, who came second on the evening of the first round with 32.6%, behind the deputy for Charente-Maritime, various left also, Olivier Falorni (33.2%).

Can Bergerac go back to the left?

Six candidates had succeeded in crossing the 10% mark on the evening of the first round in Bergerac (Dordogne). After the merger of two various lists with the socialist Fabien Ruet, who had achieved 24.74%, we can see a little more clearly. But we will still have the right to a quadrangular, with the various right Jonathan Prioleaud (assistant to the outgoing mayor Daniel Garrigue, who does not stand for re-election) who came in first on March 15 (25.86%). Julie Tejerizo (various left) had achieved 14.85% and the RN Robert Dubois, 12.95%.
