Bonn (dpa / tmn) - They make many types of vegetables: the green rice bug and the marbled tree bug suck on tomatoes, peppers, peppers, cucumber, zucchini and beans and cause damage to fruits, flowers, leaves and stems.

For example, the fruits can lighten or deform - above all, it doesn't look nice anymore. In the case of heavy infestation, however, the entire harvest can even fail. Leaves turn brown where the bug has sucked, tear open or wither.

Introduced from abroad, these types of bugs have meanwhile spread mainly in southern Germany. But the pests are also heading north, warns the Chamber of Agriculture of North Rhine-Westphalia.

Getting rid of the animals is not easy. The best way for hobby gardeners to collect the pests from the plants is by hand. If you want to protect your greenhouse from infestation, you should carefully seal the ventilation flaps with a fine mesh and also cover the doors as well as possible with insect protection nets.
