The site of the municipality of Negrar di Valpolicella, where the mosaic floor was excavated, was discovered as early as 1922. In 2019, local archaeologists from Verona began to excavate the area again. The search was paused for a couple of months due to the corona pandemic, but resumed at the end of May.

- An area with this cultural significance should receive the attention it deserves. We will find a way for the public to view the findings, says the mayor of the municipality of Negrar di Valpolicella.

Cultural life in Italy is slowly recovering, after several months of shutdowns during the corona pandemic. Pompeii Archaeological Park opened last week and on Monday the Coliseum opened its gates again for visitors.
