Police have released new information regarding the disappearance of Madeleine McCann, who disappeared in Portgual in 2007. The suspected man is in jail in Germany. He was at the time of the girl's disappearance at the same hotel as the McCann family.

The man made a phone call from the hotel just an hour before Madeleine disappeared from the room where she was sleeping with her siblings. Police have now released details of the phone number the man used and photos of a van he must have lived in during his time in the Algarve in Portugal. He must have been in the country from time to time between 1995 and 2007.

Appeals in public

The details that the police have now announced are an appeal to the public for more information.

“He is the main focus of the investigation, which is why we are going out with this appeal. Help us prove or disprove his involvement, "Stuart Cundy told Metropolitan Police Commissioner, according to The Guardian.

Madeleine McCann's parents issued a statement via police:

“All we ever wanted is to find her, find the one who did it and bring them to justice. We will never give up hope of finding Madeleine alive, but whatever happens in the end, we must know to find peace ”.

The police describe this as a crucial stage in the investigation.
