The Central Criminal Police and the Länsi-Uusimaa Police Department have continued to investigate the attempted murder in Mäkkylä, Espoo, on Monday 25 May.

In the case, two police officers from the Länsi-Uusimaa Police Department were slightly injured in the explosion while they were on their way to an apartment building on Ruutikellarintie.

As the case injured police officers, the KRP is also involved in the investigation.

The preliminary investigation has revealed facts on the basis of which it can be assumed that the resident has placed an explosive charge in the door specifically for the police, KRP informs. When police opened the front door, an explosive charge connected to it exploded, broke the door, and caused minor injuries to the police patrol and the maintenance company of the real estate company.

- The police are still conducting interrogations and technical investigations into the matter, including the explosives charge and mechanism. The man suspected of attempted murder had no criminal background, and there is no information about the motive for the act, says Olli Töyräs, Director of Investigation, Crime Commissioner of the Central Criminal Police.

The preliminary investigation has also revealed that the owner of the apartment, who was about 40 years old, had already died before the police patrol arrived at the scene. The man's death is being investigated to determine the cause of death, and the Central Criminal Police is no longer aware of it.
