  • In Clermont-Ferrand, candidates LR and LREM formed an alliance at the last moment.
  • They hope to beat outgoing PS mayor Olivier Bianchi, who won the first round.
  • The latter will have to do without the support of France Insoumise who will leave alone for the second round.

As in Lyon, Strasbourg or Bordeaux, the LR and LREM candidates concluded a last-minute alliance in Clermont-Ferrand, relaunching the municipal campaign against outgoing PS mayor Olivier Bianchi, who came out on top in the first round (38%) .

LREM candidate Eric Faidy (15.54% in the first round), 59-year-old Michelin executive, has concluded an alliance with LR Jean-Pierre Brenas (20.74%) who will lead the merged list in this historic socialist stronghold.

“We decided with Jean-Pierre Brenas to continue to carry the project that drives me to make Clermont a green, united city, which radiates. It was important to carry this project as broadly as possible, after the Covid crisis that we went through, ”reacted Eric Faidy.

The LREM nomination called into question?

“I joined the movement to overhaul Emmanuel Macron's political life. I do not know if the nomination of this list (by LREM) will be confirmed in the second round, "he nevertheless recognized.

In Lyon, the alliance of the outgoing mayor Gérard Collomb with the right had ulcerated many executives of the presidential party and led LREM to withdraw the investiture to him in a region directed by Laurent Wauquiez. In Auvergne, voices are also beginning to emerge, demanding the same fate for Eric Faidy.

"From this decision, which we consider personal and falling under low political maneuvers hatched behind the back of local representatives of the presidential party, we demand that this merged list cannot claim the support of La République en Marche so as not to mislead our electorate. », Wrote Wednesday morning the deputy LREM of Puy-de-Dôme Valérie Thomas with the referent of the party in the department.

"An alliance of opportunity"

"We deeply regret the personal choice of a few LREM running mates who goes against the values of the movement created by the President of the Republic," they add.

For his part, Jean-Pierre Brenas, who sits on the regional council of Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes in the majority of Laurent Wauquiez, indicated laconically on Twitter that he was "temporarily withdrawing from [his] political family" on campaign time.

During the municipal campaign at @ClermontFd, I decided to temporarily withdraw from my political family @lesRepublicains to which I remain loyal.

For his part, the outgoing mayor Olivier Bianchi mocked an “alliance of opportunity”, which for him is more synonymous with “confusion” than with merger.

He will now have to try to win with his united left list PS / EELV / Generations / PCF, where France will be lacking. The LFI candidate Marianne Maximi (12.31% in the first round) will leave alone for the second round, regretting that the outgoing mayor has chosen to “break with the tradition of the Clermont left who knew how to face the right and the 'far right ".

“I want project alliances. I have repeatedly proposed to La France rebellious to participate in the executive but they refuse, ”concluded Olivier Bianchi.
