France: Republicans confident for second round of municipal elections

The countdown has officially started. Since Tuesday 6 p.m., the lists for the second round of the municipal elections have been completed. Approaching the second round, the right appears in a good position in several cities including Bordeaux and Lyon, sometimes thanks to somewhat acrobatic electoral agreements. Regardless, hope is indeed back to LR.

After a rather good first round for the right - victory in half of the cities with more than 9000 inhabitants - the painful page of the European elections is turned. "We are back in reconquest, we are still not going to refuse to be hit on," laughs even the party number, Aurélien Pradié, about the merger of the LR and LREM lists in Lyon and Bordeaux. In Lyon, the outgoing mayor La République en Marche Gérard Collomb , far behind in the first round, has given way to Senator Les Républicains François-Noël Buffet at the top of the list for the metropolis. In Bordeaux, the LREM candidate Thomas Cazenave formed a “coalition” with the outgoing mayor LR Nicolas Florian.

Alliances that the party boss, Christina Jacob, prefers to minimize…: no question of appearing as allies of the executive. " It absolutely does not engage our national policy, we are not at all in that context! ", He says.
