Alejandro Valverde and Enric Mas will compete in the Tour de France and the Vuelta while Marc Soler will be the sole leader of the Movistar formation in the Tour of Italy, announced on Wednesday the director of the Spanish team Eusebio Unzue.

The Tour and Vuelta team will in principle be led by Alejandro and Enric, and we decided with Marc Soler to take him to the Giro, "said Eusebio Unzue at a telematic press conference.

"I really like the idea of being there with a great team and with Enric we can have a great Tour, it's going to be a very special season and see if we can take advantage of our opportunity," said Valverde.

As for Marc Soler, "we think he is ready" and "deserved the role of single leader in a grand tour, supported by a good team," added the director of Movistar.

"Eusebio proposed the idea to me, I liked it. I looked at the route (from the Giro) and I am now impatient," said Soler, who had originally planned to do the Tour and the Vuelta.

The coronavirus pandemic forced to compress the cycling season with the postponement of the Tour de France and the redesign of the calendar around the French Big Loop.

The Tour will take place from August 29 to September 20, the Giro will run from October 3 to 25 and the Tour of Spain from October 20 to November 8.

Movistar's idea is to start with the three leaders "in the Tour of Burgos (July 28-August 1)," said Unzue. "The three would continue with the Dauphiné (12-16 August), the two races that Enric and Alejandro would do before the Tour de France, and Marc would do the same then the Tirreno Adriatico (7 to 14 September) en route for the Giro d 'Italy, the big goal ", concluded the leader.
