Arte is launching its collection of summer documentaries on Wednesday, which through the intimacy of their characters approach burning social issues.

The collection opens with "We finish the big ones well", a strong, committed and often funny film on obesity, awarded at Figra. In "Renault 12", the director Mohamed El Khatib crosses France and Spain for an intimate road movie, on the road to share with his family the mourning for his mother.

The twenty documentaries of "La vie en face" are screened every Wednesday in the second half of the evening from June 17. But eleven of these 60-minute films have already been available on the Arte website since Wednesday June 3.

Without borders, the collection tackles the doubts of the youth, banditry in Germany, anorexia, the daily life of the police, assisted death, talks about "sores" and parenthood.

"These are the unique stories of people crossed by much broader issues", underlines Fabrice Puchault, director of the Society and Culture unit of Arte France. "Each time, watching these films is an experience that brings us back to ourselves. Getting out of frozen images".

In "Peril sur la ville", the journalist Philippe Pujol (Albert-London Prize) films a district of Marseille threatened by builders. In "At the feet of glory", we follow the journey of Abdel, football prodigy who plays his future.

The channel also rebroadcasts documentaries noted in recent months, such as "Foreign volunteers in the hell of Raqqa" and "Selfie, being 16 years old in Naples".
