High school students, middle school students, schoolchildren… The students are experiencing an intense recovery with gaps to be filled in a very short time due to confinement. The teachers are also under pressure to adapt the lessons.

Six months without school, is it serious for the future? This is what happens to many middle school students, high school students and even in the smallest classes where all the students have not returned, very far from there, since May 11 and the beginning of deconfinement. In addition, 9,000 schools are still closed, according to figures from the Ministry of National Education. From the youngest to high school students, how to remedy this educational deficiency? And above all, how to reassure them, particularly on the psychological level?

These are the questions Bianca and Anna ask themselves, high school girls who have seen each other regularly since the beginning of the deconfinement. Adolescent girls talk, watch series but do little work. Respectively, in Third and Second, they have no motivation. "If I have good grades, it is mainly because I listen and participate in class, rather than thanks to my work at home. We lack a little framework," they confide. "It's super odd to think that we are working to have a newsletter and reviews which we don't even know where they will come from, since the teachers haven't seen us for the term."

"Less demanding" teachers?

For teachers, the challenge will be to restore habits very quickly. "It will take six months of school in three months and it will be the most difficult," says Hugo Billard, professor of history and geography in a Parisian high school. "We will have to make choices in the subjects between what is important and what is less." But "let the students be reassured," he adds, "the teachers will be less demanding and they will adapt to their level.

This delay will also be made up for the youngest children, and in particular children who will be entering CP. "The preparatory course teachers will have to do some of the work, which is usually done in the large nursery school section", anticipates Roland Goigoux, teacher trainer. "They used to do it in the form of revisions. There, it will be much more than revisions."

According to Roland Goigoux, personalized aid must be reinforced so that the gap does not widen between children who were helped and stimulated by their parents during confinement, and those who had to fend for themselves.
