It is too early to say whether the positive development in recent days regarding the number of deaths has been broken, according to Karin Tegmark Wisell. At the same time, she warns that Sweden can again be thrown into an intensive phase of the pandemic.

- We have a widespread infection in the country and absolutely cannot breathe a sigh of relief.

A total of 38,589 have now been infected since the outbreak started, an increase of 775 new reported cases of illness over the past 24 hours. An expected increase after the weekend, says Karin Tegmark Wisell.

- It's a pretty typical figure for Tuesdays. There are a lot of case reports, samples and analyzes in the laboratories that come up for the weekend, she says.

More tests give more cases

The fact that more and more tests are now being carried out is reflected in the statistics of new disease cases.

- We are pushing to try wider and wider. And the more you test, the more cases we will find, she says.

The number of people receiving or receiving intensive care is 2,102.

- You see a stabilization in the last few weeks, says Karin Tegmark Wisell.

Blood donors are tested

In mid-May, the Public Health Authority presented the first results of the antibody tests that were done earlier in April. In parallel with the tests, the authority is now conducting an investigation where samples from blood donors are collected, says Tegmark Wisell at the press conference.

The purpose is to be able to better monitor the development of antibodies in society at large.

- Blood donors are a very well-defined group and a group that is followed in many other countries. We are now working fully on analyzing antibody production in these blood donor groups, ”says Karin Tegmark Wisell.

The results are expected to be presented next week.
