Patrick and Isabelle Balkany, sentenced on appeal to 5 and 4 years in prison respectively for laundering tax evasion, filed a cassation appeal on Tuesday, we learned after their lawyers.
Already banished from politics, the former city councilors of Levallois-Perret, a wealthy town of Hauts-de-Seine, had seen their increased sentence on 27 May on appeal, although without immediate imprisonment because of their state of health: the former the mayor, 71, had in particular, in addition to the “usual laundering of aggravated tax fraud”, been found guilty of “illegal taking of interest”.
