In order to return the flights, it was decided to take measures aimed primarily at ensuring health security at airports and on planes, and would eventually allow the sector to resume its activity again, after being paralyzed for nearly three months, which destroyed it financially.

The Swiss newspaper Lutan says in a report on the subject, that wearing masks, controlling temperature and disinfection of aircraft, is a series of health recommendations published by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) on Monday in the air transport to re-launch a sector severely affected by the epidemic of the Corona virus.

The newspaper indicated that this health protocol is the result of the efforts of an international working group established by the United Nations, in cooperation with several organizations such as the World Health Organization and the International Air Transport Association.

Safety of passengers and staff
The newspaper stated that the recommendations are a framework aimed at ensuring the safety of passengers and staff, at airports and on board aircraft. When arriving at the airport, the traveler is required to provide a health permit and is subject to a temperature check, as proposed by the International Civil Aviation Organization.

In addition, it would be better to register online before arriving at the airport. The way security checkpoints work should be reviewed to reduce physical contact and waiting lines.

Wearing a face mask should be mandatory inside the airport halls, and travelers should leave a distance of at least one meter between each other, and not to approach too close to each other on the plane.

Wearing the muzzle is mandatory, and the
newspaper added that once boarding the plane, passengers should not remove the face mask and reduce their movements during the flight, and avoid queues in front of the toilet so that they do not risk transmitting the infection to other passengers.

The International Civil Aviation Organization does not call for leaving a vacant seat between passengers to ensure physical distance, as this measure has been rejected by industry as airlines consider it a threat to their chances of achieving the expected return.

However, the organization requires that passengers be kept as far away from each other as possible, out of the absorption capacity of the aircraft. It also recommends that the food provided on the plane be pre-packed and that the aircraft be sterilized regularly. Passenger temperature should be checked again on arrival.

In an interview with Agence France-Presse, Philippe Berteaux, the representative of France to the International Civil Aviation Organization who led the discussions of the working group, explained that "these measures will not be of a mandatory nature but they have been the subject of a broad consensus that authorizes them to constitute a global reference, something that has never happened before. Since the outbreak of the Covid-19 crisis.

"These measures will facilitate a safe and sustainable resumption of air transport services, through a close partnership between the aviation and health sectors, which is reflected through the active participation of WHO in our regulatory work," he added.

Financially destroyed sector
The newspaper showed that the changes imposed on the aviation sector to combat the epidemic are the most important since measures taken to enhance air security after the September 11, 2001 attacks in the United States.

In order to be able to restore its activity after it was frozen and financially destroyed, the air transport sector demanded the harmonization of rules in order to reassure passengers and countries that closed their borders in the hope of stopping the spread of the epidemic. The International Civil Aviation Organization estimates that the Corona virus can cut the number of passengers by 1.5 billion passengers by the end of the year.
