The Socialist Spokesperson of the Left Party Karin Rågsjö is now commenting on SVT's revelation about the large redundancy rate in the country's elderly housing, which could have been avoided.

- Absolutely. There is no crisis plan, but we have had to invent things all the time - who does what ?, she says.

Medication stocks a necessity

According to Rågsjö, in a crisis situation there must be a national action plan for health care, a plan that is followed to the point. The responsibility cannot be placed entirely on the individual regions, which cannot be responsible for the existence of medicines for everyone.

- There is no (medicine) store, only it is completely sick, says Rågsjö.

A survey conducted by SVT shows that the mortality rate in the country's elderly homes during the most intense corona weeks. In the country as a whole, mortality is around 30 percent, but in some regions it has been significantly higher; in Västmanland just over 60 percent and in Stockholm as much as 100 percent.

According to Karin Rågsjö, there are major shortcomings in the elderly care, not least in Stockholm, since it has been reduced for many years to operations and services.

Everyone is responsible for the crisis in elderly care

To rebuild the elderly care, in the short term, protective equipment is needed for all staff, better access to doctors and a reduced number of people who visit treat each patient.

In the longer term, there must be increased resources in the form of, among other things, better education and more permanent services, says Rågsjö, who, however, does not want to point out the government or any special party responsible for the shortcomings.

"It is the responsibility of all parties that we have an elderly care facility that does not fix a pandemic," she says.
