The West Vikings responded when they did not hear the lessons at three o'clock as usual and the municipality received several calls.

In normal cases, the alarm is activated manually at the fire station in Västervik, but this time the typhoons would be remotely controlled from SOS Alarm for the first time. It did not work:

- It got quiet instead. We are now investigating what happened, I expect that during the week we should have determined what the cause was and corrected it, says Peter Helge, operations manager at the rescue service in Västervik.

Failed to test

The reason for SOS being able to remotely control the tutors is to facilitate in a crisis situation. It is not possible to try in advance if it works. Only way is to test for real.

- In the past we have only been able to start locally at a fire station and that means that someone must always be on site. The fact that it is possible to start from somewhere else strengthens the emergency preparedness.

The VMA alarm is tested four times a year. From now on it will be launched twice locally and twice by SOS Alarm.

- It's fun that people are attentive and lack the tutorials, says Peter Helge.
