- Bathing in our locks is associated with immediate danger to life. It may seem safe and attractive, but all of a sudden the lock doors open and thousands of liters of water pour out every second. If you are then down in a lock, the conditions for being discovered are small, says Göta Kanalbolag's CEO, Roger Altsäter, in a press release.

Good attention

It is ok to swim in the canal from jetties and adjacent lakes, but the canal company believes that many also swim in places where they should not. They call for good vigilance as bathing can be difficult to detect for boat drivers.

- According to regulations that exist with both the municipality and the Swedish Maritime Administration, it is forbidden to swim in the lock basins and 50 meters away from them. Yet, the youth defy the ban year after year. Ultimately, it is a parental responsibility, but it is not certain that all parents know that their children take the opportunity to take a dip in our locks.
